69 Camaro Vintage Air smoothing firewall
Hey guys,
Im going to be smoothing my firewall. Do I need to leave anything for the Vintage Air kit? From what I've seen there is 4 bulkhead fittings that you have to drill holes for. Is this correct? Any insight from you guys would be great. Of course the VA sales rep told me, "The only way to know for sure is to go ahead and buy the kit and have it in hand. Since you are planning on buying it anyway it won't be like you wasted money" That's all fine and good but I'm at least 2 years away from even thinking about AC. That money could be spent on sheet metal right now:D |
I smoothed my firewall and I bought the main Gen IV unit so I could get it mocked up inside first. I ended up welding bolts to the inside of the firewall and plan on painting my firewall before the rest of the car. I did this so it wouldn't wreck the paint. I'm not using any bulkheads so I just drilled 4 1" holes for grommets. I'm going to run the hoses through the holes. I also bought the controls ( I went with the 3 nob electric one) so when I build the custom console, I have it.
I would recommend calling Frank at www.gpsuperstore.com and talk to him. He knows alot about the Vintage Air kits and will sell it to you in stages. That's what he did with me. Here's a pic of mine with the 4 holes I was talking about: http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/d...9/PICT0116.jpg |
Oh man! Thanks for the pic! That looks like exactly what I'm doing to mine with the AC and wiper motor hidden under the fenders. I will definitely call Frank, I've talked to him once before, awesome guy that Frank!
