What is a Pro-Touring

I was recently reading a new french magazine with US cars (rods, muscle cars, kustoms,...) and i was amazed to find a strange comment about this 69 Mustang.
The author said: "Bad point goes to the too much modern wheels which would have been better seen on a Pro-Touring car(????), dechromed for exemple. Installing 18" vintage look would have been a better idea"

Here is the car (that you can find on this forum);

So, i ask the aficionados, What is exactly a Pro-Touring ?
Is it an old car with improved mecanic (engine, brakes, wheels,...) with a stock look or must it be modified with a lot of body mods (dechromed bumpers, flush windows, ....)??

I though it was both but perhaps m i wrong :unibrow:

ah, the French................. gotta love 'em. :D And I am part french........ :) They obviously haven't a clue what pro-touring is, that car is pro-touring in my opinion. Looks like SW's old car.

Hey,

Is my car in that issue? Just curious...

Pro-Touring, to me, is making an old car handle, drive, and out-perform a modern car. To make it more fun to drive (or TOUR if you like)..

But in general the definitions get old after awhile.

Yes indeed, it's SW's Mustang ...
No Bad Penny in this issue :(
There is the 70 Nova from Precision Coachworks, Bobby Werner's 71 Camaro, Bob Matranga's 69 Dart (built by Barry's speed shop), that's all for Pro-Touring....

I had a long discussion with the editor of that magazine while he looked my car over at the Car Craft Summer Nationals in St. Paul. I see they left the Car Craft portion off the headline on the cover. lol Probably didn't want to promote another magazine on the cover of theirs.

He seemed like a nice enough guy, I enjoyed talking to him.

Maybe next time, you can explain to him what a pro-touring car is!
