Hood Pins??

I was curious if this is needed for the 67 camaro? I have heard some stories from time to time about the hood coming up and smacking the windshield and roof. My car is at the body shop right now and I was thinking if I was going to do it, now is the time. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

I'm seriously considering using these flush mount surface latches that Matt Delaney used on his Challenger that he had at SEMA. They look trick and will work great to get around the problem I'll have with the stock hood latch.

They look cool, but a little big. Do you think the hood coming up can be a problem with these cars?

If you're using a steel hood, I doubt you'll have any problems with it coming unlatched, bypassing the secondary catch, and hitting your windshield, :) .

At what type of speeds would one need to start considering them with a stock steel hood? I see my car probably hitting 130mph or better on the straight at BIR in the next few years... There would be a lot of high-pressure air under the hood at those speeds.

I do plan on going that fast at the very least :D

Who makes those? I was thinking of using the Ring Brothers teardrop hood pins.

We use a simple safe key type 2" round locks on Prodigy. We used a Carbon Fiber face I thought would be to ricey, but it works pretty good. FWIW, I have been 149MPH in the street racer with factory hinges and latch holding a glass hood and no hood pins. But I have tho0ught about the hood blowing off while in the middle of a pass, LOL!

Stielow built the Red Witch, Thrasher and Mule all with glass hoods and no hood pins. They all went very fast with no problems. I remember somewhere there is a pic of the Thrasher on One Lap doing maybe 170 ? The front suspension looks completely unloaded...as in nose up....hood stayed down though.:willy:
