Insurance during build?
 

I had a nightmare last night that my project was stolen from my garage while I was a sleep. I jumped up and went to the garage to check on her when I first woke up. Is there a Insurance while building? Now I cant get it out of my mind!lol

I believe Hagerty will do that for you. I have 2 cars insured through them, they were both running at one point, but now one is in peices. It came time to renew my policy and I was looking to save a little money and they asked if any of my cars are currently apart or being restored. They would insure that car for everything but driving and it wasn't much money. So its insured against theft and damage and fire, but if I get it running and go out and act stupid with it and wad it up before adding the full coverage on it, its on me!

I have my project insured through Hagerty. It's been in pieces and now a little back together. Sent them a few pics and have it insured for theft, falling off trailer, vandalism, shop collapse, etc.....agreed value of $25k and it's only a couple hundred bucks a year.

We've got Hagarty for our Camaro, and they have been about as easy to deal with as possible. The car was completely in pieces when we bought it and after getting the suspension under it, we opened up an agreed value policy with Hagarty. We didn't have it registered. Every couple of months we fax over the last batch of invoices that have piled up, and perhaps pictures too, and they up the coverage for that exact amount so there is no guess work as to how much the car is worth or rather cost to build.

Another vote for Grundy! Have been using them for years now and not one complaint.

Your home owners policy should cover all parts that are not bolted to the car incase of fire or theft. Everything bolted to the car is part of the car and will be covered under that policy.

When I shipped Pete my wheels/tires (after I shipped him my car) I called Grundy and told them what I was doing and added a 'parts' policy to my origional policy...that way if there was any damage or theft to the wheels they would be covered...and the good part is that none of this is very pricey.

Hagerty here, even covers parts not installed yet that are stolen.

............If you are working on a project car at home,please call your agent and find out IF you are covered! I have State Farm and was not able to get coverage until I could provide proof that it is a complete vehicle! I also found out that the vast amount of parts that were aquired for my build were NOT covered (read the fine print on your policy!) during the build either! It is a different story if a shop is doing the build ,and would still ask them to provide proof that they have coverage while THEY are working on your car. If they do ,they would be glad to provide it, if not I would become suspicious. Do your asking before you have to make a claim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another State farm customer here. My parts are not covered on any auto policy, only the homeowners policy. When they are on the car then they are covered on that policy. But the homeowner policy can get a little strange, as suggested read the fine print and if you have ANY doubts or question have them point it out in writing. Never assume when it comes to insurance policies.:cheers:
