3SuperSports' 69
Well, I don’t really know if my car qualifies or not. I don’t have 17’s+ or mini-tubs etc. I went with a more retro theme and used minilite wheels. I wanted a 60’s Trans Am look, but have spent a good part of my time making the car handle. I’m building the car more for go than show, but I’m sure I’ll have a difficult time containing myself as the project progresses.
The car is originally an SS-350/300 hp L48 with a Muncie M-22 4 speed, and 12 bolt posi-trac with 3:73 gears. The (soon to be replaced with a ZZ-383 or LS-1) original, but rebuilt long ago, engine has a set of '69 302 heads (2.02 intake, 1.90 exhaust valves) '69 Z-28 cam, windage tray, '69 Z-28 high rise aluminum intake, edelbrock carb, headers, and 2-1/2" exhaust. The suspension includes Hotchkis springs front & rear, Hotchkis 1-1/8" diameter hollow sway bar, PST polygraphite front end kit and KYB gas-a-just shocks. It's a stiff ride, but handles great. The wheels are 15 x 8 Minilite's, still available from Minilite in England with BF Goodrich P235/60/15's up front and P255/60/15's out back. The paint was completed in May of 2002 and is DuPont orient blue pearl below and GM pewter metallic on top. The interior is currently stock except for a set of Corbeau seats and harnesses. I will be updating the dash and interior this spring. The car is definitely a work in progress, but I have it at a point where I can drive and enjoy it as often as I like. http://modernmusclecars.net/forums/v...getimage&id=41 http://modernmusclecars.net/forums/v...getimage&id=32 http://modernmusclecars.net/forums/v...getimage&id=40 |
Hey, Mike Wyzowski (sp?)!
I like the 2 tone, it definitely stands out. My project started out much like yours, I was going to keep it relatively stock, just an emphasis on handling. I don't know what happened. lol Anyways, thanks for showing the pics, keep us up to date with your project with more. :D |

Thanks guys.
I got the idea and confidence from the gold & black '68 built by Smokey Yunick, to two-tone my car. Vic Edelbrock owns it now and his daughter Cami drives it in the historic races. Actually my name's David. The Mike Wyzowski figure was given to me by a friend. The fact that the character is a car enthusiast with one eye, same as me (I've been blind in my left eye since I was 6 or 7) made the comparison stick. I've been thinking about doing some TA graphics for the car and since this one isn't a direct replica of any one particular car, I've run race team names and numbers through my head and though about using something like "1i racing" just for a joke. Anyway, thanks for the welcome and the compliments. I can honestly say I admire all the cars I've seen on this sight so far and have admired camcojb's work for a long time. Years ago Mark Steilow's red witch turned up on ebay at an exotic car dealer in Wisconsin (I think it was) and tried to work out a two for one trade with them, but they weren't interested. clill, ended up with the car and I still have hopes that I'll get another chance at that car some day. I frequent Team Camaro, Modernmusclecars.net, and just about everyother major Camaro site that I know of. |
