HotRodKush's "From Tow to Pro(-Touring)" Z28 Build!
 

My new project! I've been aching to do a pro-touring build for years and finally had the time to go out and look for a car. I found one in New Jersey that would be perfect for the job.

I took the day off work yesterday and picked up this car with a rented Uhaul trailer. It was a full-day process spanning two states and a couple hundred miles, but I finally unloaded the car in NY last night. Here's a pic loaded up, about to leave Jersey at around 4pm (Don't mind the steely on the truck, I got a flat tire the day before - luckily the trailblazers come with a full-size spare):

It's an unmodified numbers matching '80 Z28, factory 4 speed car. I'm the seventh owner. The paint and interior are rough, but the body is straight and the car is 98% rust-free. The car runs and drives but the suspension is completely shot all around, so I'll be concentrating on that for the first part of the build. My goal is to build a G-machine that I can take to AutoX and road racing events, but also enjoy on the street. I'll be building this car on a budget so this will not be a subframe-off, nut and bolt restoration, but will be purpose-built with the best parts I can afford. I won't, however, skimp on parts to save money - they'll just be more carefully selected to make sure they're the best performing parts for the money. The fact that this car is rust-free allows me to start with an essentially fresh platform. Being a former auto mechanic, I'm able to do 99% of the work myself which will save quite alot of money.

I'll probably update every couple of months or so, this will be a long-term project. When completed, it'll be extensively AutoX'ed and tracked (or as much as I can while running a full time business). Thanks for looking!

Excellent way to start a project! Looks like a real solid car. Just get it to sit right, get it running good, clean it up the best you can and have fun with it for awhile!
