Solid motor mounts??
I see lots of you guys putting in solid motor and tranny mounts.
I would think that it would shake the %$#@! out of everything and raise the fear of cracking.. just for track use? benefits? downfalls? why are you guys doing it? |
Hey TDRV,
I have had 69 camaros since I was 16 , Last 25 years and on any high performance cars, I have had solid motor and trans mounts together and NEVER cracked anything, I know they say not to run the 2 items together, But I never have listened to anyone anyways. Most all my cars have been big block 4&5 speeds and all high perf cars got aluminum body mounts to. Cars shaked a little but That I think was more from compression and cam lifts. Now if its a mild street crusier type car, then I would use the rubber mounts just for the smoothness, I know my wife likes ridding in the pace cars better then any radical tubbed out prostreet cars we have had. |
I fabbed the ones in my car, I like mounting everything solid to the frame so exhaust can me mounted solid etc. etc. I had a Nova that had solid motor mounts and a urethane trans mount no problems there so I guess I will try solid! I plan on running a 385ci/T56 combo.......

Motor Mounts
I too have had solid motor mounts and a urethane tranny mount. My fully balanced motor with solid mounts shook the car less than my buddies rubber mounts and non balanced motor.

Cool definalty some food for thought
I thought for sure that would be a recipe for dissaster but maybe not.. I know with rockcrawlers it sure is, but there all geared down torqueing over huge boulders :D so no one here has had trouble from this?? I may mount my motor with a transplate or the likes then :D |
i have an alum front motor plate, alum midplate, urethane trans mount, and "struts" to keep it form flexing the plates forward/backward on hard acceleration or braking(overkill...yeah, probably)

I am thinking of adding a midplate to my set up! |
How much power?
|
"should" be around 650-700 hp, as its basically a small nascar sb2 with less compression.
|
So with my build.. (really light, not a race car, 4cyl roughly 180hp.. basically a go cart with a body)
What would you guys do? I dont think I need a mid plate and a front motor plate :P I could actually solid mount the motor to the front subframe, wich is mounted to the rest of the car through rubber bushings, it would be solid but still be cushioned from the main chassis. good plan?
