new job
so i been toyin with the idea of finding a regular job, as im really getting tired of never having any time to work on MY stuff, i been slowly turning away jobs for the last few months in an effort to get caught up, and as of 2 weeks ago... i am down to project that isnt mine(long term for a buddy on "vacation" for 4-5 years...less with good behavior)
another friend of mine was workin for his buddy who owns a fab/paint shop that does mostly race cars, street rods, harleys and hot rods.... kinda like what i do, just more of em. well my friend couldnt handle workin for his buddy(we all know how that works) and quit. i just happen to drop by to see what was goin on...got to talkin to the owner... and BAM...i got a job. after being self employed for the last 8 years, sans the occation side "job"...i was really leary about goin to work for "the man" full time. so we came to an agreeable wage, and decided we would try eachother out for 1 month, just to see if i can put up with a boss, and if the boss can put up with me, my attitude, my abilities, and work style. saying at the end of 1 month that if either of us have any issues that we can work it out or walk away...no hurt feelings. well this is the end of week 1, and i must say that i really like it, show up at 6, leave at 5, 4 days a week...gives me an actual 3 days of "me" time to work on MY stuff(as opposed to 3 hours/week when i really shoulda been workin on payin jobs) no headaches or stress about tryin to meet the deadlines, customers who find out they can afford to finish what they started, and all the other joys of being self employed. the bossman is mucho impressed with me and my abilities, and the bad attitude doesnt bother him either.... so as of now this looks like it might be a new path for me. i will try to get some pics of the shop/projects, as we have some very cool things goin on. 56 nomad, mild chop, shaved clean, full round tube chassis, 4 wheel ind suspension, air ride, LS2/4l60e, big and huge wheels/tires (kinda pro-poser street rod thing...but its cool) 57 bel air, 540" efi blower motor, full air ride, tubbed, basically stock exterior, full on pro-street :_paranoid that the cust swears he is gonna drag race  . 51 chevy truck, morrison rails/round tube x-frame, air ride, 4 wheel ind, LS1, chopped, sucided, late model bed with early fenders moulded in, big and huge wheels. couple chevelle drag cars, couple "do-over" jobs from other shops, and a long list of projects waiting for shop space. the shops name is performance fabrication, look for a shop tour in the feb 06 issue of car craft. hopefully this works out...as i really need the time to get my projects finished up. |
sounds like a good fit. I kind miss working in a hot rod shop...one day i'll have my own shop in my backyard.
