68camaro front spring question..
i already have 2 inch droped spindles installed and i have a set of hotchkiss 2inch springs i havent put on..i want to go lower than 2 but i think 4 is way to much. dose any place make a 1 inch spring so i could make a 3 inch front drop.
has anyone heard of 4inches in the front? pictures would help. thanks |
Best thing to d is put a spring isolator, or spring spacer under the spring. This way you keep all the goodness of the Hotchkis spring and get the car back up a bit where you need it. Back in the day, GM actually installed them at the factory in some A/C equiped cars to raise the front a tick when heavy A/C was added, so that got the nick name "A/C spacers" in the resto world.
Long story short, they just go under the spring in the lower control arm. Because of the springs location vs the ball joint location, keep in mind whatever you add under the spring will double at the wheel. So a 1/2" spacer nets you a 1" at the tire. |
If your current springs are used/original, you might try installing the Hotchkis springs to see where you're at. Original springs are often worn out and the Hotchkis may net 1 1/2 - 2 inches from stock. Frank - great info on the A/C spacers!

I say just try it. Hotchkis most likely measured lowering against what factory stock cars was from the factory way back when. 2 things to this. 1st Cars where fairly tall from the factory. If your springs are over 40 year old originals
you can beat that they have sagged at least something. That said I don't think you will see a 2 inch lowering changing the springs. Also as Frank said about accessories if you have AC or not will make a bit of difference of course if you have aluminum intake and heads or not makes a difference also. Tonny |

I kinda have the same situation as famous68 except with a Nova. Can you recommend a spacer/isolator to try? |
