Factory traction bar on 69' camaro
hey guys; I bought an addco rear sway bar and didn't realize that I had a factory traction bar. It's obviously something that would be in the way of a rear sway bar.
Is this something you can just cut off? Has anybody else done this and hacked it off? I was concerned about warping the 12-bolt. http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/z...t/DSCN0067.jpg |
I know 67s had a factory traction barthat was an option. I've not heard of a 68 or 69 with one.
|
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, don't go cutting yet! If that is a real 67 rear is is worth some money.
I cannot tell in the picks, is it a mono leaf pad? If so you need to check the code on the front of the passenger side axle tube half way between the center section and leaf spring. It will be some stamped letters and numbers. Get those and lets decode it before you ruin it. Depending on what it is, a restoration guy may pay good money for it and you get a brand new Moser! |
hey guys; the car is a 69' camaro; i guess it is not the original rear end.
I will have to get it decoded. |
hey guys I got the code from the rear
it looks like its a 1967 12-bolt - 3.55 gears; posi (which it still has I can tell). from May 22nd...if I'm decoding right. how much ballpark range do you guys think its worth? I was pissed I couldn't hookup that sway bar haha. http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/z...t/DSCN0070.jpg http://i842.photobucket.com/albums/z...t/DSCN0076.jpg |
That is definitely a mono-leaf housing from a '67 with traction bar mount. Like Frank said, if you could find the right guy you could probably get a new Moser or Strange rear for close to what it's worth. here's a link to just about everything you ever wanted to know about this rearend:

Yep, that's a factory '67 12 bolt. Don't cut that bracket off! I have one that the bracket was cut off and talk about kill the value of it (even with the documented codes). I even removed the paint and showed where the old bracket welds were. People want to be stubborn about it, so I plan to buy the bracket, weld it on, and jack the price up next time I plan to sell it.
It's worth $1500 all day long (maybe more). |
Yep resto guys will gizz all over that rear.
It is a 67, those are indeed single leaf pads. Great rear to unload and get yourself a new Moser. |
yea I've done some research on it; and its worth around 1500ish at the most. Unfortunately I dont have the extra cash to fork out for the moser 12 bolt; which would be $2100ish at the least for a 30-spline eaton posi.
I'm still contemplating just hacking it off; screw the purists. or may just hold off on the rear bar and install it when I have the extra cash to fork out for moser 12 bolt as well. Thanks for the help guys!!! I apreciate it. |
You could get a new Moser Ford 9" housing / 31 spline axles and buy a used third member to keep costs down.
