Which Welder Do I Go With???

Hi, I am getting into welding and want to pick up a machine. I have narrowed it down to the Miller Matic 140 or 211. I like the 211 because you can use either a 115 or a 230v plug. I am using this around the house for automotive projects and thats about it sheet metal and some frame work.

If someone has either machine please give me the pros and cons you have and if you would have gotten something different.

Thanks

Easiest answer!! Name brand, and biggest machine you can afford. I have a 210 (model before 211) that we use for 95% of the stuff in my shop. Been running flawlessly for 8 years!!

the 212 is the new 210, and the 211 is a new lighter duty machine. do you have 240? if so theres no reason to need both 120/240. if you need a longer cord, they are easy to make.

the 212 also has a better duy cycle and a better gun with a 5' longer cable/hose. check cyberweld.com for some decent prices.

if i had it to do over again, i would have bought the 250/252 for is infinite adjustments. i didnt think it would matter, but i could see a use now.

Do a search, there are several threads on this very subject with excellent information. Good luck!

The bigger machine -- ALWAYS.... Never cheap out when it comes to tools. (Greg's rules! )

You'll THINK you only want to do "sheet metal" -- but once you can actually WELD... you'll want to build a shop table - and your friends will have "fix it's" for you... and it'll never end. If you can afford the 211 - get it. I own a 210 and love it.

How's that Chad? :>)

I recently bought a 211 on Ebay and like it. Should be fine for what you want to do.
