Fiberglass experts!! Question...

i have finally finished laying the resin and mat for my console project.

My question is.... right now there is only one good layer of mat and resin, and its kinda flimsy... do i reinforce the underside? or do i reinforce the topside that will be seen? I have the shape down almost exactly the way i want it.

Suggestions?

if you can get to the underside then put two to three layers and hat should do it. the less you can fiberglass the top the less you have to sand smooth.

good luck if you have anymore questions about fiberglass you can pm or email me.

If you have laid all of the glass outer layer just in 1/16" weave glass, you may want to add a layer of 3/16" weave glass mat (sometimes called "Woven Roving") on the back side. Most times you will need to visit a marine supply shop to find.

You can also add bracing in the critical areas in the glass and resin on the backside, made from 1/4" or 3/8" marine-grade plywood. once encapsulated in the resin, it will be very strong.

Ah, very good idea... probably a good idea to do the plywood with some longer straight parts, eh? ;)
