Data Loggers/Acquisition Questions
To all:
What type of Data Acquisition sytems do you run and why? What different Systems have you seen and liked? How did you choose the system you have? I like lots of data about the Car, should just buy more gauges, or find a data logger that will monitor these things and warn me if something is wrong with the car? Temperature - Water, Engine Oil, Transmission Oil, Rear End Oil Pressure - Fuel MPH, RPM, Fuel level Gauge, Odometer, Vacuum, Air/Fuel Ratio, etc.etc. Anyone who has one,let me know. Thanks, Ty O'Neal |
Ty, I really like my RacePak setup (have one in the drag car). I plan on running their stuff in my PT car as well. It's a great and easy way to get data on everyone of the points you mention. Now, it's a bit expensive if you want things like all 8 EGT's, shock travel sensors, etc. But if you go with the basic setup, it's great info to have--i.e. volts across an entire rpm range graphed against your fuel pressure against your EGT---(nice when you are running an electric pump on your FI motor to ensure things are working the way they ought to.
I've used FAST data logging as well, but prefer the RacePak since it's easier to work with, and they have been around much longer in the area of data logging. I'm sure others will chime in on this, but I would highly recommend them to anyone seriously considering the ability to monitor the functions you've mentioned. Doug |

Doug: Thank you very much for the input. This is the type of information I need. Nothing says good quite as well as a satisfied customer. What all do you monitor with yours? Would you start with the basics, or by a,"kit"? What features are your favorite? Take care, Regards, Ty O'Neal |
This would be a good thread to make a list of the options that are out there for Data Acquisition. Off the top of my head there is:
Racepak http://www.racepak.com/index.php AiM http://www.aimsports.com/index.html MaxQData http://www.maxqdata.com/index.html Stack http://www.stackltd.com/index.html Traqmate http://store.traqmate.com/default.asp And depending on the motor being run a lot of aftermarket ECUs have the ability to datalog. |
