undecided on wheel/tire combo 90% street, 10% track
I'm unsure as to whether to go with a practical as well as economical setup for a street/hpde combo, like the Billet Specialties Street Lite 17" 9.5 front 11" rear, wrapped in Nitto NT-01's/R888's, 275 front, 315 rear. Or whether to look at an 18" combo. Main concerns are performance, light weight, and keeping expenses down. Secondary is looks and bling.... the 17" wheels don't fill out the wheelwell like the larger diameter wheels, so any suggestions are appreciated ;-)

Seventeens just look to dated for me.

At a minimum--for performance and "Bling", I would start with 18's. There are plenty of deals out there if you can be patient and wait for the right moment to purchase.

315 / 35 / 17 are the same height as as 335 / 30 / 18.
Give me a call and we can discuss options. BTW, your Fab 9 left today, will be there Thursday. Lots of goodies! |
I really like those wheels. I would also go with a 17" wheel. I like the look of sidewalls and not a rubberband.

Someone once said, "Go big or go home". I agree with most here that say 18 is MINIMUM. And I've seen some better prices on 18's than 17's. The law of supply and demand.
I gotta say though, 22's may be a little too much. |
18's on a '67 are perfect....
I agree 17's are "dated" as Todd put it. |
Yes, there are some great 18" tire deals. but there is no argueing the econimics of the 17 X 11 rim that is easy to get a cheap.
I also think 18 is my minimum, but sell some 17s based on cost and some people just do not like the bigger wheel look. Some guys are coming from 15s and going to 17s is a BIG step |
choices
all the excellent input is appreciated. thinking it over i come to the conclusion that a set of dedicated 17" track wheels with R-compounds and a set of 18/19" street wheels with higher tread wear may be the ticket
