How do I wire my TKO to my new Autometer Speedo?
I have a TKO600 with a pigtail already on it for an electronic speedo so I don't think I need the mechanical sender that came with it. Is there an adapter I can plug into the TKO's pigtail?
If so, who makes it and what is the part number? Or do I just splice the Autometer into the wires directly? Anyone know which wire does what? |
I installed a TKO 500 in my Javelin. I have an autometer 5" elec. speedo. the tko 500 pigtail (on the pass. side of the trans) has 2 wires. 1 wire goes to ground the other wire goes to the signal spade on the back of the speedo. you MUST calibrate the speedo (see the instructions that came with it) when using this speed sensor on the tko. the speedo will not just be inaccurate without calibrating, it won't work at all...

Thanks, that is good info. I did read the calibration instructions. I just have to figure out how to mark off 2 miles somewhere...God only knows how accurate any of my existing odometers are.
I'm going to check out the pigtail on the TKO600, I assume it's also a two wire connection. I was reading about a possible 3 wire sender, and couldn't recall what was under there. |
Purple and yellow wires and if my memory serves me correct, the wires are opposite from the tko to the autometer speedo. Check the wiring diagrams on both.

Thanks guys. I called Keisler and they are sending me a connector with pigtails and a plug for the mechanical cable I'm currently using.
I guess the pigtail already on the trans is for the neutral safety switch, not the speedo. The Keisler tech said he thought that the yellow was the signal, the 'other' one was ground on their pigtail. Vegas, you said yours was reversed, did you get your pigtail from Classic or Keisler? I hope it comes with a diagram either way! EDIT: I checked my american autowire harness for my Covan's dash last night and indeed, the yellow is the ground and the purple is the VSS signal. So it sounds like the Keisler and Classic pigtails are the same, so I'll likely have to reverse them as you indicated. |
Classic, it's not a big deal. Just make sure to look at both schematics. If you can't find them ,I'll dig em up for you when I can.

two wires.... one is ground - should be able to go to ground with a continuity checker to see which one is which.
