power steering problem
I'm not sure where to post this. My cuda has a small gm style pump I put a dse resevior on and it's always whined really bad ever since, I dumped the atf I ran in it and put some gm stuff in and it only makes noise when you turn the wheels it used to wine all the time, any suggestions? I did put a little lucas in it and it did'nt seem to help. It works fine I just want the noise gone. Just though I'd ask before I buy a new pump. thanks Telly

Ask for Jeff.. he's my goto guy about GM pumps.. especially newer style ones |
did you bleed the pump out after installing DSE reservoir? GM pumps arent happy if you run the pump with air in the system! Usually at work, if we install a GM pump and someone forgets to bleed it out before start up, they will have a slight whine to it always. Usually re install another new pump and turn the wheels 20-30 times lock to lock, when you do fire it immediatly kill it. Check fluid level, start up again maybe a few seconds and kill it. Slowly working time of running it up and letting air bubble up between start ups. If pump starts whinning you've gone alittle to long but is ok, but kill the engine instantly! Just my 2 cents on how we bleed out GM PS pumps ;)

Put a new pump on and bled it right and it makes no noise! thanks

another trick that our local GM engineer showed me was to start the engine and turn to full lock one way then turn the engine off. that opens the releaf valve and lets the air make its way out. you need to do it half dozen or so times each way but its the only way we have been able to get all the air out of the new impalas when they blow a hose.
