LS 6.0/TKO ?'s
Planning on running a TKO 600 behind an iron block 6.0 in my 71' Nova. Was curious of what you guys are running for a bellhousing, clutch, & flywheel w/ an LS/TKO? I would like to run a GM ls7 clutch, flywheel, and pilot bearing but haven't been able to get a clear answer on if this will work and what bellhousing I will need to run? I have a new CC5speed "621" aluminum bell I was planning to use on another motor, but am unsure if it will clear the ls7 clutch and work w/out probs w/ the 6.0? Will be running mechanical clutch linkage also..... Did a search and didn't turn up much info, someone enlighten me!

How about this one:
https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...t=16246&page=7 If you look closely its a reproduction 621 but they casted in the lower mounting pads and bolt holes, to fit the back of an ls engine perfectly. I have the ls7 clutch inside it and the TKO-600. I didnt even have to switch the pilot bearing. The one that came with the engine fit perfect to the pilot. Its not the standard small block/big block, muncie/t-10 pilot bearing. The ID is the same but the OD fits the larger step in the crank and its a sealed bearing. The bell is not a scattershield but will do the job. I bought my bell through The driven man the guys name is grey. CC would not sell me the bell unless it was part of the kit. You could go with a quick time or mcleod scattershield also. Hope this helps some- Rich |

Thanks for the feedback Rich! Killer build you have goin there, went back and read your whole thread..... Just to clarify you are using the stock pilot bearing that came w/ the ls7? Also what did you end up using for a flywheel? Stock ls7? Any chance you have the GM part #'s? Will have to give the driven man a call on that bellhousing, was it tough getting it dialed in to the TKO? Looks like a quality piece from your pics. |
Thanks- and yes the stock pilot bearing that came with the LS7 and the stock flywheel that came with it as well. I did some pretty careful measurements from the front mounting face of the tko to the center of the pilot on the main drive gear, then the center of the pilot bearing back to the mounting face of the bell. The two numbers show the pilot sitting right in the pilot bearing.
As far as the bell goes with regards to concentricity and quality, each one is checked on a fixture and there dead nuts on. Talk with grey, he will chew your ear for a bit, nice guy. I set mine up with a hydraulic bearing kit from CC, its the kind that floats(not bolted to the retainer)and you use some shims after doing a little math to set up the throw. I just hope its all good and reliable, probably the only area that I'm a bit fearful of. Sorry dont have any gm part numbers, Im away from home right now but have a gm performance parts catalog there. if your still looking in another week, ill get back to you. Do a search at Pace performance they have it all and very fair prices as well, or a search at www.ls1tech.com/forums/ for part numbers. Rich |
