Solid Body Bushings
 

Hey I was just wondering what would be a good Body Bushing set to buy for my recently purchased DSE's subframe connectors? I plan to weld them in as soon as I can. I found a website:

Those are an excellent choice in aluminum. BMR has recently come out with Delrin ones but I haven't seen them yet.

Here ya go! We have been wanting to do these for years and they are now available. We feel that this is the best solution for this application. Delrin does not corrode like aluminum will, doesn't squeak like polyurethane, and doesn't deteriorate like rubber. Our kit is not a universal kit like some that are offered. The core support bushings are sized specifically for the core support, no drilling or modifying anything to make them fit.

Can you wedge the subframe with the BMR bushings like the PTFB ones? Acetal seems overkill, but overkill never hurts.


The PTFB set of SFC's and bushings is a great deal, and all of Dave's stuff is quality.

I run the Global West aluminums. I didn't notice any hint of difference in cabin harshness or noise, etc. I think of it like the 3rd gen Camaros, the subframe is welded directly to the body on those. I decided on aluminum mounts because I was installing subframe connectors. I had previously been running polyurethane bushings for years beforehand.
Let me say this about polyurethane as well... in a MOVING suspension system, poly has a tendency or rumor to squeek.
In a body bushing situation, there's no spinning, rotating, etc. It's mostly compression dampening between the body and frame. Poly body bushings will not squeek. Period.
And if you're going to run subframe connectors, then I consider solid body mounts imperative. The last thing you want to do is have flex between your body and frame in the front, but rigid in the back.
After experiencing on my daily driver poly bushings and then aluminum mounts, I will never bother with poly body bushings again. There was no difference in ride quality, and the frame to body unity felt more strong/solid going into driveways, speedbumps, etc. But that was also helped by the connectors.

As for brand, I don't have experience with the PTFB but they look high quality. I bought the GW ones cause I first purchased the Comp Eng. aluminum mounts, but they had an almost non-existant lip and you're supposed to use a shorter bolt and washer on the bottom side. This seemed very hokey to me, so I never bothered installing them. The only other aluminum mount on the market was the GW interlocks.

sounds good, Ill go with the PTFB solid bushings and let you know how they work in the car. I know polyurethane can squeak unless you properly service them with grease. Polygraphite is supposed to eliminate the squeak but still some services are still required. Ive heard from everyone to use Solid bushings for body mounts. Thanks guys :thumbsup:

Not familiar with "wedging" the bushings, can you explain?

lets not create problems that don't exist to promote a product please, if aluminum corrosion is such a problem we all better quit the hobby.
Poly body bushing don't squeak, there are no moving parts.
But you could say the Delrin is not the right material as it absorbs moisture and cause corrosion of the frame and floor pan.

You can angle the subframe slightly to lower the front sheetmetal, while not changing any suspension geometry. Im really happy with my stance, but I might go with a shorter front tire when I get new wheels, so this would aid in keeping my stance.

pro-tour79, ill be hitting you up from some SFC's and bushings, and maybee shocks as soon as california signs a budget(so some time next year at this rate :willy: ).

That may have been stated because of dissimilar metals joined together, causing corrosion between the Al and steel. But, I've found that most underbodies are painted so this tends to not be a problem as there is a barrier between the two metals.
