Replacing Valve Cover Gaskets 3.8 V-6

The passenger side valve cover on our 2000 Firebird 3.8 V-6 leaks, not much, but annoying. Slightly tightened the valve cover itself, but that didn't stop the leak.

Can't get to the rear lower valve cover bolt, as there is a large bracket at that area.

What is the bracket, and how do we remove it???

Any and all help and info is greatly appreciated.
