Project FlashPoint
Just thought I would post up some pictures of the 69 Camaro that we just finished a complete repaint on. The car was built by Rich Bermea at Road Touring Customs in Gilroy CA and the build is amazing except for the paint which was originally done by a local body shop in Gilroy. The owner Eric loved everything about the car expect the poor body & paint. The paint on the p/s quarter panel had already begun to crack just a few weeks after it was delivered back to RTC to be assembled. The body panel were not straight and they had only cut the car with 2000 grit before buffing. So I was contacted to see what could be done to fix the poor body and paint. I picked the car up on may 4th and began stripping the p/s quarter to see why the paint and filler had already begun to crack. There was 3/8" thick filler on the quarter and in spots it was over 1/2" thick in spots.

So we decided to replace the quarter panel

Now the fun begins. We were inspecting the rest of the paint and the paint began pulling off in sheets. There was no adhesion between the paint and primer nor was there a sealer laid down prior to spraying the basecoat.

We did not strip the fenders or hood as they were painted sperately and the paint was adhering to those parts. So we began blocking them out with 120g
http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...o/IMG_1328.jpg This is the best way to describe the previous paint and body work. You can see all the layers on the hood and it still isnt straight. http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...o/IMG_1329.jpg http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...o/IMG_1330.jpg So now the polyester primer to seal it all up http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...o/IMG_1333.jpg |

I posted all the pics to show that we all need to be wary in who you take your car to have you body and paint done. anyways here is the finished result. Over 300 hours in 4 weeks. I picked the car up on May 4th and delivered it back down to Gilroy on June 4th.

Holy ****. The paint peeling off makes it look like shelf paper. Crazy.
Very nice re-do though, the owner must be stoked. Tyler |
Luke! Way to go buddy....
Crap like that is what gives so many shops a bad name... Talk about a "bondo wagon"! What a shame. Looks good now though! :woot: |
