New Career

Haven't been around in quite awhile or doing much to any of my cars because I went back too school in Sept. after losing my job in the winter during the downturn in the economy. It was tough to say the least as I was alot older than the rest of the students, like twice their age. But as of yesterday I completed the last of the skills program of the Law Enforcement program at the local college.I was able to complete it quick because I already have a degree and only needed to do the core Law Enforcement courses. Now just need to get a job, I do have a second interview with the local Sheriff's office in a week and I hope that it works out as I only live down the street from there and it would be a quick drive.

You got your POST at 40? Grats, thats a hell of an achievement.

Also, a tip, try and look as young as you can at the interview. There are quite a few departments that wont hire if youre over 35. So look young but still professional.

That's great, Darryl. Which county Sherriff's office? Olmsted or Dodge?

Wont hire if your over 35?!??!? Dang it! I noticed that I'm getting to the age where getting an Australia work permit is going to be a challenge (see: http://www.workpermit.com/australia/..._shortage.htm).

Time to check out the age range for CentrumŪ SilverŪ. :D

Seriously, congrats!

Scott, Dodge, I already work for them doing prisoner transport and have been a volunteer there for about 5 yrs so I hope that helps a bit.

just to explain, the retirement system for most departments is so generous, they want to make sure you put in at least 20 years. Senior officers are in the $6900/mo range nowadays before OT, so they want to make sure they get their moneys worth.
