Factory LS harness?

Hello,
I didn't know if this should go in the electrical or EFI section...

I plan on dropping in a 5.3LS motor in my 70 shortbed pickup, but I have a question about the factory harness:

I was wondering why I need to have the factory harness modified? Why cant I just use it the way it is? I will delete vats and other stuff in the ecu that I don't need.

Any help would be appreciated.

you can use the stock harness as long as you disable vats and things you won't be using. Most people swap for a couple of reasons.

1. To get a new harness with just what you need, cleaner install.
2. Get a custom length harness. Most of the factory computers are under the hood and most aftermarket installs want to hide the computer inside the car. In that case the factory harnesses usually are not long enough to reach.
