My 69 Camaro Vintage Air install
I posted this in my build thread too but figured I'd put it up here to for
anyone interested. I wasn't to impressed with the brackets that came with my Vintage Air kit. I couldn't use it anyway seeing as how my firewall is already painted plus I didn't want any hardware showing on the firewall side. Made this out of 1/2" tubing. I bolt in the upper bracket first, then attached the bottom half of the bracket to the evaporator case and install them assembled. I used Nutserts in the sheet metal of the car. The bottom of the bracket attaches to the little shelf there at the top of the toe board. You can see the Nutserts from the engine compartment but it's much better than right through the firewall. The little brace I made for the center dash support really firmed things up too It is very sturdy and I probably could have done without that triangulated piece on the upper bracket but it really made the mounting much firmer and it gives me something to attach wiring harnesses and other stuff to later on. http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/PICT2274.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/PICT2275.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/PICT2276.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/PICT2278.jpg http://i886.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/PICT2277.jpg |
Looks sweet, got any pics from the engine side?

Only here in my build thread: https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=27133
Those were taken before the A/C install but the only thing you might see from the engine side is the two nutserts sticking down from the top of the toe board. |
thanks for the pictures! I am getting ready to install the VA kit in my 68 and was looking for bracket ideas.
nice work  |
That is a work of art!
Ever thought of marketing them? ;) Going to be redoing the evap in the '69 soon, thanks for posting. -Mj |
Very nice....always nice to build stuff yourself.
DSE makes a production one you can buy for the guys that cant fab one themselves |
I thought of just buying the DSE one but wondered how rigid it would be. I'm
real picky about rattles so that's the main reason I went this route. That thing is in there solid. Plus I was also thinking of maybe using some of it to attach my ISIS or PCM to if it'll fit. I might also make some kind of panel that goes forward from the bottom of the glove box and covers everything up nice, like modern cars do. Thanks for the kind words! |
That looks great
