LS Reluctor rings

so i am changing the reluctor from a 24 to a 58 and i notice the 24 has 2 wheels with all the notches opposit on each wheel, and the 58 tooth wheel i got from GM is only 1 wheel. the question wold be does the 58t wheel only need to be a single?

Blake i dont think you can mix these with the ECU i think it throws off the timing curve?? Not 100% sure hopefully somebody with more knowladge will chime in.

Reluctor wheel is ECU specific not sure about the original question.

I should know more about this swap soon. I am doing the same conversion on the 402 that came out of Bad Penny, we will use the GMPP 48x computer, harness, and gas pedal on it. I have to change reluctor wheel and crank sensor, also change cam sprocket from 2x to 4x. I hear there are 4 different cam sprockets. Goodson makes a reluctor wheel indexing tool, if you get more than 2 deg off in positioning the computer will not function right.

LS-7 GRAY Crankshaft Sensor

My 60-2 (58x) Crankshaft Target will provide for greater Spark Instant (1/4 degree) resolution.
(Patent expired, less cost, the "dual" element BLACK sensor provided for rising/falling signals)
Many of the GM EMS can be calibrated for that CT.

The BLACK Crank Sensor WILL NOT WORK, you will need a
LS-7 GRAY crankshaft sensor.

What is the position of your camshaft sensor ?

The LS-2 (front cover) camshaft sensor has the
TWO OUTSIDE wires reversed with respect to the LS-1 rear camshaft sensor.

yes there are different cam gears.

mike norris hepled me out this is the GM # 12586481 for the 4 segment cam gear the uses the 3 bolt mounting and the front cam pick up.
i changed the reluctor and pick up (grey Pick up fro 58 tooth)
i am also using the GMPP comp harness and fly by wire gas pedal.
i also ordered the HP tunner software to help tune the comp, turn off the knock sensors ( the iron block does not have the same mounting location , i was told that the knock sensors are esentially tuned microphones and changing them from an aluminum block to an iron block would probably cause problems anyway.

yea all this stuff just bolts together????? sure it does

I realize the original question may not be relevant any more, however in the spirit of completeness the 58x wheel is all in a single row. It will not need to be stacked like the 24x.

Lingenfelter makes a conversion box that allows you to mix and match the 24X with the 58X. They may be able to custom program something for you if necessary.

why are you swapping to 58x ?
if you are running the 2 plug ecm e38 then you need the 58x reluctor the grey sensor and the cam sprocket gear with the 4 notches you cant use 58x and 1x cam sprocket
or 24x crank with the 4x cam sprocket

i have a bit of a bastard child going on here.
the car came with a GMPP ls7 3 plug computer. and an old ls2 grey sensor 58 tooth front cam sensor with single bolt cam.
i havew a LQ9 6.0l that is all new with forged internals titanium retainter all studed ready to go.
so here is what i have done and used maybe it can help some one in the future. this is all to make the new ls7 fly by wire computer work
The parts I have used off the LS2
front timing cover with the cam pick up
grey crank pick up

parts i needed from GM
58 tooh reluctor #12586768
4 segment cam gear (for a 3 bolt cam) this is an ataptor gear that GM sells #12586481
i also needed the short balancer to work with the GM factory accessory drive #12635649
fly by wire throttle body #12570790

all of this is now mounted to the LQ9
and on paper it should all work
we will see next week.
the biggest PITA is figuring all this out on the fly one peice at a time.
i cant beleave how different the 2 motors are
