My son signed with the Army today

I am a very proud parent he chose the military. He really did not know what he wanted to do after high school, and with the economy right now, he is garanteed employment and room and board for the next 3 years active, plus 5 inactive while he attends college. He is a senior this year and is suppose to deploy to basic next June.

He had chosen to be a field scout which I was not looking foward to him doing, but he failed he eye exam and is partially color blind which we did not know. He chose instead to be an MP, which I feel good about since he is not on the front line, and will have a career when he does choose to leave.

I still have not figured out why in the end he chose this route since I was not a military man. My dad was in the Army and grandfather was in the Navy. The other side of the family has all been civil service state side. In the end our whole family is proud of this day in his decision to serve his country.

One of my best buddies is head of all of security for the city of Seattle... he's a retired army Major -- and was MP and chief of security in the service... It's been a very nice life for him and as you pointed out - the service gave him a lifetime of opportunity.

I wish him all the best Mike!

I'm a firm believer that every young person should do a tour of duty in the military... regardless of chosen service or length of the tour (2,3,4 years).

Congrats my friend!! Tell him an Air Force E-8 and prior Security Policeman thinks he made a great decision and that I wish him well!! :patriot:

Great desicion! I was in the same boat when I was in H.S. didn't know what I wanted to do after I graduated and 14 yrs later I have a great career in the USAF and love every minute of it. It can be a rough life but very rewarding whether he becomes a lifer or decided to move on to other ventures after his tour is up. Congrats, Definately something to be proud of.

Glad to hear - serving your country instead of self helps you not take life and freedom for granted. Awesome, Mike
