LS GM Serpentine Drive Kits
Here is some information that might help you guys when using GM drive kits..
I will have more information as I use these systems on builds here @ the shop.. Here we have a LQ9 motor that has a harmonic balancer, water pump, & supercharger for a LS2 2006 GTO that I purchased for a car here @ the shop.. The iron block does not have all the necessary bolt holes for the alternator brackets so this is what I did.. I purchased a LS Corvette track system from Pace Performace without the A/C compressor ( part #19155167) cause it holds the alternator & P/S on one bracket that mounts on the cylinder head.. but the LS2 track system sits about 3/4 out on the harmonic balancer.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0280.jpg So I measured it up & machined a spacer that mounts behind the alternator/power steering bracket to get proper belt alignment.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0279.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0282.jpg We also had to machine some spacers for the belt tensioner.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0281.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0283.jpg Here is the final assembly with belt system.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0284.jpg I really like using the LS Corvette Sepentine System because it mounts the alternator high & helps with trying to fit everything low.. I will be using this kit & making components to make them fit on other LS track systems.. I have a L99 out of 2010 Camaro that is next which pushes it out about 1.25 & needs to run the alternator high because it is on a 2nd gen Camaro that runs the steering box in front.. keep you posted! |
Damn man, you hit the nail right on the head. I have been gathering info on this future project I am thinking about doing. I have a 93 Saleen Mustang that a few people are interested in trading me their 70-73 Camaro's for my car. If I do this I would love to install a LSx w/ a T-56 trans behind it. I have wondered about the drive belt system and was wondering if anyone made a kit that would solve this problem. I have looked online at Jegs and Summit and they have the kits for $1500+ which I am trying to do on a budget. I will keep reading about all this stuff. Keep up the good work informing us all.

Chris- Are these pieces you will be making and selling? Just what I need for my about to be started lq4 build in my 67 Camaro. And that is the stock balancer off the lq9, right? I assume its the same for the Lq4? Jason

Jason- If you can get me a measurement like posted pic.. I can determine if my spacers will work for you.. I have an extra set that I machined & will to sell them if you need them..
Working on another one for L99 which happens to be sitting further from the block.. Claim that it sits like a truck system.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/P9020033.jpg Quote:

This is a great write up!
I have been trying to work this out for my Lq9 motor. I have the Pace PAC low mount alternator drive system W/O A/C. Part # 19155166. The alt won't clear my rack/pinion. I tried to just get the bracket for the High mount kit part # 19155167 from Pace, but they said the alt and PS pump are different and won't work. :(
