I have to thank Chris Fesler for building killer stuff! As well as being a Lat G sponsor etc....

I got my new hood hinges (after a stock version decided to take a dive) and man are these things a work of art!

I suck at photography (as well as at many other things...) but here's a couple of pics "as installed".

Looks great Greg! Does the hood still open all the way? It's a slight issue with the first gens.

X2. Big change to the positive Greg. I really like the pair I purchase from Mr. Fesler also, work of art.

Nice! The pic looks pretty good to me, are the hinges brushed and clear powder or polished? Either way they look awesome and the engine too :thumbsup:

Tony ---

The hood opens way farther than it needs to -- but if you notice - he includes positive hood latches (since the hood will NOT stay up without them)... and that locks it in right at the perfect show height!

I use a fiberglass twist lock roller painters pole to jam that sucker all the way open if I'm working under there! LOL --- Have used this for years --- it's bright yellow and I keep it wedged between a couple of tool boxes for easy grab and go!

Lenie --- They are truly works of art... the machine work is perfect! And the hood raises and lowers without drama -- can't say that for the 50 year old "stockers". These are so smooth - like butter.


Rich --- These are brushed - clear anodized (whatever that is). That way they kind of match the throttle bodies. Thanks for the nice comments on the engine. It's just an old hot rod -- not a PT car by any means.... and it's really just my rolling experimental platform (as my wife calls it). I've gone through lots and lots of cars - and this is one I've had since 1999. Several motors - new chassis - different trannys - rip it apart - learn how not to do something - tear it apart - fix that and mess something else up... :rofl:

Get this too.... this all started because the driver hood hinge took a dump.... well... what do we expect them to do after 50+ years!?

Anyway - I had driven down to Portland for the Beaches show - met up with Bob B etc and Luke from L&H... I go to open the hood and it comes up all friggin' wonky and sideways... WHOA! WTF just happened there!!?? Well -- I noticed one of the "bars" has come loose at a pivot point. Closing it became even more fun!

So ordered these up from Fesler on THURSDAY AM - had them FRIDAY AM next day! EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHAAAAAAA

SO now I have to get the hood off --- one man --- so strap it to my lift -- no problems - up she goes... and off go the old hinges - start to put on the new beauties -- and notice that in all this wonky up and down and twisting - that one of the nutserts in the hood is bad and metal fatigued around it. NOT GOOD.... NOT GOOD AT ALL ON A PAINTED PART! So a call to Rudy - and he drives up from Portland to help me flip the hood onto my body saw horses.... and I'm shocked to see more than just one is bad... there are cracks around a couple of them and they're wiggly and loose... so at this point - I've nothing to lose... AND I have a major show this Sunday (my own club puts it on - so being there is "important"). No time to get a new hood - let alone paint this one -- so I bust out the TIG machine - carefully clean the area to bare metal around the nut serts -- using real low settings and Rudy holding a wet rag on the painted top part -- I tack - tack - tack - weld a little - tack - all the while cooling with air after each tack..... GOT ER DONE AND NEVER BURNED ANY PAINT.... Taped up little square area around where I welded (It's all covered with the hinge anyway) shot the bare area with some light gray etching primer - painted that small area with a brush.... it flowed right out.... let 'er dry and Rudy and I put the hinge on! BETTER THAN NEW! :rofl: :rofl:

I should of got a picture of the vice grip holding the hinge together.

Talk about the ultimate pucker moment!! :faint:
