1969 conv camaro zo6 engine front and rear independent suspension
Hey guys,
My name is Scott and I'm from Socal. I'm new here but thought I would share my 2 year project with you all. 69 x11 convertible. Full rotisserie with all new metal except doors and front fenders. Sent the car to 21st century street machines and had the works done. They are out of business now but they made subeframes for the front and rear that hold c5 suspensions. Huge mini tubs. Amazing frame connectors. Enlarged trans tunnel to make room for the t56. I used a full z06 chassis that I purchased on ebay with only 3,000 miles. Bought an amazing t56 from rpmtransmissions with the works as well. cryogenic micropolished gears. bullet proof, silky smooth, and handles up to 800hp Also, purchased huge c6 z06 wheels 19x12 in the rear and 18x10 in front. I still need pedal assembly, radiator, custom narrow gas tank, shocks, steering collumn, gauges, and wiring and plumbing. Money is tight at this point so progress is going alot slower. I would love any input you guys might have. https://www.youtube.com/profile?user=.../5/MYqRkPsZzsI https://www.youtube.com/profile?user=.../2/OusHzmzHUsg https://www.youtube.com/profile?user=.../3/aS4Nr5HSxC4 https://www.youtube.com/profile?user=.../4/DpRgdugVcqI Thanks, Scott |

Hi Scott, The project has a awesome basis ; a '69 vert, Z06 engine, chassis & trans. Too bad the shop went south. Hold on to it, the big wheel should always come back. ( and... if at all possible, contact the 21st century guy, privately. Hire him as your personal assistance to get the project going. You'd become an expert by the time the car is completed. I'm sure he would take this offer while still between jobs. But I'd reco you do all at your home, keep inventory tidy and at hand ! ) Best, GM . |
Cool build. Too bad the shop went under. I like seeing IRS under these old rides. I look forward to seeing more of it.

Here's my input - Keep it. That car has all the beginnings of an awesome build!
And Geo is right. Get in touch w the 21st guy. I believe Steve Rupp knows how to get in touch with him... Was that car for sale about six months ago? |
Great project, Scott.

Scott,
I've got the same subframe in a '68 with an LS7. If you're running A/C, you're going to have to modify some things to make the accessory drive work. If you're not, the Corvette stuff will probably fit fine, but I've never tried it. I also had issues with getting the Ford rack to play nice with the GM power steering pump. Adding a hydroboost to the car, just made this more complicated, as well. As far as some of the stuff you've listed that you need, I've had good luck Ron Davis rad number 2 so far. They changed the design a bit to alleviate the leaks that were an issue with the one we got 2+ years ago. I've got a C6 pedal in the car, and it looks stock, even the original stainless trim fit it. Not sure if that would play nice with the C5 stuff, though. The '68 has a stock tilt column in it, which has worked great. Not sure if a stock column fits the look you're going for, though. You'll have to build a steering shaft from the rack. I used stainless stuff from Flaming River--no issues at all. For wiring, I like the American Autowire kit I used. It was a lot of time and work to setup, but it allows you to do whatever you want as far as how you run the wires. For the engine I harness I was very happy with Speartech; they sent the full harness with computer and gas pedal. I have been happy with a the gas tank we got from Rick's, as well. Anyway, it looks like you've got a fantastic foundation for this car. They can't have done many with the IRS underneath. With the right springs, shocks and sways that thing should handle extremely well. I'm looking forward to seeing progress on this car. |
Really nice project, that rear suspension is very trick.
