Silver State 2010 - James, Mary and the OPTIMA Batteries OneLapCamaro
Well it's that time of year again and it's official - the OPTIMA Batteries OneLapCamaro is heading back to Ely for the Silver State Classic Challenge! This year I'll be driving again with Fast Mary Pozzi navigating the 90 mile course down Nevada Highway 318. We're going to shooting for a conservative 120 mph average this year so it should be a nice cruise in 6th!
We're heading out on Thursday and will be posting updates starting on Friday with the race itself on Sunday. It should be a blast! and just 'cuz I still love this picture: http://www.onelapcamaro.com/californ...Mile%20800.jpg and yes Steve... we know...:D |
That's awesome! Best of luck to you...and most of all have a great and safe time!!

Thats looks like a blast..best of luck to ya both ..be safe !!!!!!!

It should be a really interesting event this year. The highlight - besides Mary's navigating - will be seeing Pal-Avrid Blytt run his 1400 HP, 252 documented MPH third-gen Trans Am in the Unlimited division. He has a really good shot at resetting the record...

Good luck and be safe!

Well its been a long and - regrettably - dissappointing outing for the OLC Team at the Silver State Classic Challenge. We got off to a great start at 9 am sharp this morning but only 20 miles in to the run we were stopped due to a red flag on the course - one of the 150 mph cars punctured a front tire, went off course and rolled. The driver amd navigator both walked away but the car was totalled and we were parked for over an hour. When the course was reopened we were restarted from the 30.1 mile mark with the first third of our run no longer counting. Once we got going again we had less than 60 miles to go, a scrawling of pile of notes and a 35 mph headwind to fight to the finish line. With only two miles to go we were confident that we were right on our time but with only 10 seconds to the finish it became obvious that we were to fast. With about 3 seconds to go I got hard on the brakes and we crossed the finish within - what we hoped - a second of our ideal time. The calculations show that we averaged 120.127 mph on a 120 target. Unfortunately the preliminary results show us as DQ'ed for being too slow at the finish. My GPS says no but the radar gun says yes - maybe (its under review). Sorry guys (and Mary) - we gave it a good shot but definately didn't wind up with the finish we were hoping for. The good news is the car was great - cruising at 130 - 135 for a lot of the run - and is ok. The increased speed and brutal headwind knocked our mileage back to about 10 mpg but we'll be back next year in a faster class. We'll post more updates when we get home. Darn...
