Get some round bars at the hardware store. It cost me $12. Starting with the seat back, you need to add one vertical bar and 3 "S" shaped horizontal bars on each side and then cut off the old bars to make room for the larger wheel well. Place the vertical bar in the depression of the existing springs. Make sure you put wet towels down before you weld. The old padding burns very easily. The seat bottom is more of a challenge. There is one wire that needs 3 clips undone. The wire needs to be bent with vise grips and then re attach the 3 clips in the new position. I found my welding pliers worked the best on opening these clips. Cut the two wiggly springs after you have re attached the wire. Add 2 bars and then cut off the corner of the frame.

Great Pictures And Info.
Now If I Can Make Mine Folding Also, All Will Be Good!!! THEY DID THIS ON MUSCLE CARS SEVERAL YEARS AGO..

ALSO THAT ROD LOOKS LIKE "PENCIL ROD" = SMALL 1/4 - 5/16 NON-DEFORMED RE-BAR USED WITH BRICKWORK,
AVAILABLE AT A MASONRY SUPPLY YARD.

I used 8' of 1/4" rod and 4' of 5/16" rod. Costs about $12 at the hardware store.

I printed out all your pics & modded my rear seat today. Its all done except for the welding. (i dont weld nor own a welder) Your pics were spot on & the seat fit perfect around the tubs. You saved me a ton of time. Thanks again.

Can anyone tell me if this applies to a 69 rear seat as well, or would there be a difference in dimension?

I have a 69, it worked perfect for me. Should all be the same, except maybe convertible.
