HID Headlights
Can anyone recommend a HID headlightkit for a 1965 mustang. Are they any good? When I first looked into this in 2004 there was like one manufacturer and it cost $1,500. Now they are like $100?? Any good? My halogens are terrible even with the 'best' bulbs. Looking to switch the taillights to leds too.
thanks for any help. |
your best bet is to get the H4 conversion housings, then run a 100 watt H4 bulb setup with relays. They will be way bright enough. The drop in HID kits are generally reserved for Honda civics with body kits lol.. they are mostly for looking cool, but standard headlight housings are not designed for HID bulbs. You usually get a crappy beam pattern and angry oncoming traffic.. The other option is to retrofit OEM projectors designed for HID into the H4 7" housing. Basically you would cut out the back of the housing and custom mount the whole projection unit to the back of it. You can use Google to search if you don't know what I mean. I have done alot of headlight research in the past. I had German only headlights in a VW I had and I converted them to OEM HID projectors. It's kinda fun to do actually, and also there is a reason OEM HID stuff is $1000 and ebay has it for $99. You want good quality ballast and bulbs or they burn out and or look like crap, left and right color wont match, that sort of thing...

If you are considering HID headlights in a classic car, I'd read this thread over at Pro-touring.com before you pull the trigger:

I've yet to see a single proper HID conversion in a build except twist machine.
You need actual projectors.. |
That post I linked is actually written by the owner of Twist Machine.

Hid
Awesome. thanks guys. I figured there had to be a reason no one had them. Seems like a good opportunity for a good quality premium kit for teh g-machine community.

Hid conversion
I have installed a wonderful kit compiled of two manufactuers. Xenon vision HID and Hella lenses. They are on a 69 camaro that was featured in November Chevy Hi. Guessing around 350-400 bucks for both pieces.

Those crystal headlights put out a HORRIBLE beam. I tried them on my mini. http://lh5.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/S3...0/IMG_5085.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/S3...0/IMG_5086.JPG My suggestion is to buy some Hella E-Codes. Amazing headlights for classic cars |

hey guys, I just picked up a set of these from my friend who is the owner of the company. They are a good alternative to the ebay kits or the $1500 hellas. I was lucky because he gave me a pretty good deal, and I thought it would be easier to just have the plug and play kit with the pretty trick cut off design than to deal with retrofitting. I'm not far along enough in my camaro restoration to install them but here's some pics from the website. www.trueprojectorheadlights.com
Oh, and there's two styles, but personally, I liked the look of the classic ones more. |
