Lights for my RS - Opinions Please
I have been kicking around the idea of some upscale lighting for my RS.
First on the list is the front turn lights- I really want a light that does turn and running light duties all in one package. I dismantled one unit and was about to draw up and machine a set when I thought of seeing if there are some available. Morris Classics has a set as does Marquez. I like the Marquez set up better, but can not find any info on them anywhere. Brake and run lights- How about the Lights from Marquez? Do they come with a bezel and lens or just the bezel? I was looking at a LED based setup, but I had a bit of a uncomfortable experience and was turned off to buying a set- now I am considering having my hardware engineer do a quick layout to do a one-off setup, but wanted to see if anyone had used an LED setup and if they liked it. If you have used a LED based tail light kit and could lend me your thoughts, I would appreciate it. Running (marker) lights- Marquez seems to be the only ones on the market that I would be interested in- again, no real info. My questions are related to how the light / bezel kits work in terms of fit, how they wire up in terms of additional leads or different bulbs, how they mount onto the car, what finishes they are available in and what the reliability of the finish is like. I was considering putting a set of the marker lights through the salt spray machine at our place and seeing how they hold up before moving on, but if someone else has some good info, I may skip that. All the lights on the car now are brand new- bought from Classic Industries with approximately 10 hours in the sun- tops. The rest of the time under a cover or in a garage. If I buy all new stuff, I may have some goodies for sale - cheap. |
Everything I've seen from Marquez Design is first class. The fit, finish, and style are great. Damn near every first gen Camaro I saw at SEMA had them. Even the Baldwin Motion and the Foose cars. I'd recommend them. You can see the stuff at www.marquezdesign.com.
For LED tail lights, try American Auto Wire. They have a video on their home page on how they work and look. I want a set like that for my '77 Camaro. For LED's on every other part, many of aftermarket places for imports around me have them, and I use them. Just a little touch I like adding to my cars. edit: I forgot to add the AAW website. www.americanautowire.com |
Maybe someone from Marquez design will reply to my e-mail or post. I like the look, but I need some better info before I make a purchase decision.
Any other choices on the LED tail light idea? |

All you need is some billet and a small sheet of red lexan! Bob Johnson's taillights are proof of a great designer and some ingenuity! There are cheaper ways to get cool results so don't panic at Bob's light bill. Other choices might be be to panel the area and search for O.E. lights that would look good and fit the area well. Risky and easy to make ugly but can be done. |

All I want to know is about the application of what is available before I put a lot of time into doing one-off versions for my car. I appreaciate your input, but I am looking for any reports of actual use and results for the products. |

I was referring to Bob Johnson's orange Cuda that was at SEMA and pictures of it and it's great taillights are all over the site as well as P-T.com or www.johnsonshotrodshop.com |
