Second Gen Dash Question....

Ok so my dad and I are restoring an 80 Z28. We both like the looks of the earlier "wraparound" style gauge cluster and dash as opposed to the later flat dash the 80 came with. Our question is what years did the dash change from the early style to the later style, and can an early style go into a later second gen without modifications?

We want to go from this style....

to this style....

The early style is 1970-78, and is a bolt in replacement of the later style.

On a side note, its a pain in the rear to get those aftermarket dash's to fit even close to right.

Correct 70-78, 79-81

Scotty (Protour73) has a great writeup I've heard. His car is ridiculously mint.

I had good luck with my OER new dash from Classic Industries.

I've seen what you're talking about though with some other people's ventures.
