Need fuel line routing advice
First gen Camaro. I'm getting ready to plump fuel system and can't decide what to do with fuel lines in engine bay. Old small block and I'm mounting regulator to pass. side cyl. head. It's a return style regulator also... So I need to get two hardlines ( one 1/2 inch, one 3/8 inch) up to infront of the a-arm. Any advice and PICS would be great. Hope this makes sence as to what I'm trying to do. Thanks, Jason

In the past and on my personal camaro and the firebird we did. We mounted reg on back side of the head or on firewall and plumbed from the backside. But we are also running electric pumps

Nothing in the rule books that says the regulator needs to be in the engine bay... many are now mounting the reg back near the fuel tank... lots less plumbing!

Sorry, I guess I should clarify, this is with a mechanical pump.....
|
If that's the case - then why the return line etc.... Most mechanical pumps pump 7#'s or so of pressure.... and the carb has a needle and seat and a float bowl.... No real need for a return line and a regulator.
Are you racing? Why the 1/2" fuel line? What are you running? Was pretty sure you said SBC.... Are you doing a blow thru or what? |
Greg- A while back a got a smoking, and I mean SMOKING, deal on one of those race pumps. The brand name race pump i mean. You know, the piston driven style mechanical pump...... they require a -10 or -8 feed line and for street use a return style reg. to keep out of vapor lock. Overkill? Heck yeah, but the price was such that I couldn't pass it up. So that's what I"ll be using. Don't try to talk me out of it as YOU already talked me out of an aeromotive a-1000 pump a while ago. Lol.. Dude! Too funny ---- okay now I know why you need what you need.
Go for it! EEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA |
This is where I mounted my regulator up front, external pump electric pump thou, dual 1/2 inch lines to pump, 5/8 lines from pump to tank:

You might want to give Howard Stewart @ Racepumps a call. My Racepump and required regulator has a 1/4" idle bleed that returns to the tank. The correct reg. is important on this set-up.
