LS swaps- books and info
 

Sorry if this a question that's been asked already...

Eventually I want to swap an LS motor into my 79 Cutlass wagon and I for sure want to do one in whatever project I do for my classes in the Street Rod shop next year. Just curious if anyone has read any books on LS swaps and what was your opinion on them? I've found two-

"How to Swap GM LS-Series Engines Into Almost Anything" Book on ebay

and "Chevy LS Engine Conversion Handbook HP1566" Book on Amazon

I know with enough time and research I could find all this info online for free, but search time is limited and I can't take it to school to read between classes. I do better with a book in my hand than reading online anyway.

My mechanical aptitude is such that there isn't much on an old car I can't rebuild or replace. I've taken a computer engine controls night class at the local tech school and have a pretty good understanding of the basics but that was about 10 years ago and I'm sure well outdated now. Outside of that I don't know anything about late model motors. I think a book that gets right to the point and has decent photos would help get me up to speed fastest/easiest.

I have the first one (the second one isn't out yet), and it's Ok but you will have to either spend money or do research (or both) to do a swap. These books won't have full wiring and pinout details along with mounting, exhaust etc details that will vary by car/motor.

I have the first one, just an advertisement for S&P really. I didn't get any good info from it. Try LS1tech.com all the info you will need. If you still have questions just ask and you will get your answer on there.

I have the first book also, Learn some from it.LS1 tech is good also.You can never have to much info.

GM also offers a book. well, more like a booklet (35 pages), but still well worth having.

LS1 Engine Kit Installation Guide

The one I have is PN 88959384 and was revised 9/1/01

They have probably made updated ones since then but it has GM part numbers, pictures, DTC, PCM pin-outs, wiring diagrams/ engine control schematics, etc

I've found it very helpful for my swaps. I've done two so far. My '67 Firebird will be my 3rd LS1 swap.
