Roadster Shop 2nd Gen Camaro Build

I have been getting a lot of questions about this car when it was seen in the background of a few other pics that I posted. I was going to wait until we were further along with the build to post, but here are some early stages of a 2nd gen that we are building for a new customer from CA. The car features one of our new Fast Track chassis and will be powered by a twin turbo LS shortly. It should be a pretty unique car.

Ride Height mock ups - The goal was to get this car sitting low with larger tires than most are runing on their 2nd gens. We really like the way a 20" x12" wheel with a 28" tire looks under the back of these cars. Front will be either an 18" or 19" x 10" with a 295 tire. We were able to get a ride height of 3.75" at the front of the rocker and 4.5" at the rear of the rocker. This thing just looks bad a$$ sitting there!

(The car had already been primed and the fenders painted when we received it. All of this will eventually be re-done.)

Here are a few shots of the completed chassis. This is part of our new Fast Track chassis line up. We are building vehicle specific chassis for 1st and 2nd gen Camaro's, 62-67 Novas, 64-71 Mustangs, challenger/'cuda, Chevelle/GTO/A Body and a few others.

What is involved in getting that chassis under the car? Does the entire floor have to come out and be rebuilt differently?

Because of the shape of the floor on the 2nd gens, this chassis does require fabricating a new main floor section in the car. The rear rails will follow the stock trunk floor so that can be used from the package tray area back, along with a stock gas tank. We are going to go with a different route for the tank so we fabbed a new center section of the trunk floor in this car.

The crossmember is designed so you can fab a dropped floor in the car which will keep the driver seat low like the original floor and give you plenty of head room.

Will love following this build. Any target date for completion? Looking forward to seeing the FAST chassis on the road/track.

Wheel tubs were fabbed to clear the 345 rear tire. We also fabbed complete outer wheel houses to get the tires out closer to the edge of the 1/4...more on that in a minute.

Dang....That is one sweet looking setup...nice work! :hail:

We widened the top section of the quarters to again get the wheel/tire out closer to the lip of the quarter. When we sat the car this low with such a tall tire, it ended up hitting the body unless we moved the tire inboard 2-3 inches. That made it look like a bad pro-street job, so we started to work.

This is probably one of those things that most people will never notice when it is done... but everyone would have noticed if it wasn't done.

In the end it is hard to tell that the quarters were altered at all. Here are some "down the side" shots of the car once the work was completed.

Hey Marty, I made sure the back ground on this one was blurry so you couldn't see the "other car" that we are working on across the aisle!:unibrow: :rofl:
