Quarter Skin Replacement ??
 

So, I am in the process of replacing my quarter with a new skin. I already cut 1/4" from top body line, door jam, and gave myself a lot of wiggle room for the rear. I cut the bottom of the quarter in front of the wheelhouse completely out and there is a bracket from the jam area. I wanted to roll the skin above the rocker and tack weld it, but that bracket is in the way. How would you do it, or how should it be done.

I looked at your build thread, but not sure of which bracket you are talking about. Post a picture. And see if someone can help.

You should really consider the full quarter, but if not, let's work around what you have. Are you talking about the lip on the quarter skin that folds inward and welds to the top of the rocker? Please clarify for us. I think I know what you're talking about?

The factory quarter is notched to fit around the door striker brace if my memory is right. I think this answers your question.

Here is the reinforcement I am talking about. I want to roll the skin under it like factory. And a reason i dont want to replace a quarter is that my door gap is perfect

Copy what the factory did..... you can tell from your removal of the original panel how things were installed in the assembly process, and If at all possible replicate that. As far as your door gap, even retaining the "factory" gap that's "perfect" you're running the risk of warping and moving the gap around by welding that close to it anyway, let alone the face and crown of the panel that may get distorted by trimming the 90 degree flange off (that wraps around the latch pillar) and welding the entire seam.... so why not install a full quarter and just tweak the final fit? Leave your door where it is and use that as your reference point to establish the final fit and door gap.

I think the quarter goes under that bracket between it and the top of the rocker. So you would need to break the spot welds to fit the quarter lip between them.

I would go for the full quarter as well. That seam might be harder to butt weld than dealing with the door gap... just my 2 cents. Good luck-
