All engine builders got a ?

Any of you guys use Petroleum jelly as assymbly lube on some parts like lube for rod and main bearings, some oil pumps, etc. My engine teacher swears by it since it oil based that once pressure the engine oil will break it down. Just want to see who else builds their motors like this.

Nope, I've used Clevite bearing guard for years, it's good stuff. There are numerous other companies that make good stuff.

I've used it in transmissions and various other things to hold something in place but wouldn't use it on an engine bearing. Could be wrong but I seriously doubt it's engineered to take the pressure needed in a bearing application. He may get away with it but their are better ways..

GM E.O.S. is about the best stuff out there for putting an engine together.
