1965 Chevelle "Shadow": Rear Wheel Spec Misprint?
Hey Guys I came across this awesome Chevelle in the latest CHP. I was wondering if the rear wheels specs were a misprint in the article.
The article states the rears are 20" x 10" with 29x15x20 MT Sportsman S/R tires. I'm confused since the MT site lists these tires should be mounted on 13" - 14" wheels. If these were mounted on a 10" wide wheel the section height bulge would be huge! However, it doesn't look like it in the below pics. http://image.chevyhiperformance.com/...alibu+rear.jpg In this shot, the tires look more like a 12" - 13" tread width. http://image.chevyhiperformance.com/...alibu+rear.jpg |
Nobody knows? 15" tires on a 10" wheel seems pretty crazy.

I'm with you Banko, that looks like about a 12" rim. It's definitely not a 14" or 15" width. It must be a misprint.

Here's a link to the build, but no info on the wheels.

Hi Gentlemen,
I work @ Sandale fabrication, and here's your answer. Rear tires are 29X15X20 on 20X10 foose 500's as the article states, footprint is around 11", bulge from the face of the tire to the face of the wheel lip is 11/16 I can probably answer any further questions as well. Front wheels are 18 x 8 with a 4" backspacing and rears are 20 x 10 with a 5" backspacing.
