New Car Dealers
Hey All,
Just need to have a good rant. Am dealing with a new car dealership in my local area in order to purchase a brand spanking new SUV. Yes, gas prices are going up. Yes, the economy is working on recovering. One would think that they would be willing to stick to the deal we struck back at the end of October. No, it was not a great deal, but it was just above KBB recommendations. I ordered a very simple, trail edition, so I can have the additional height for off road excursions. No need for extra stuff that costs more and is just not going to be used and will probably break. Received a call from the dealership a week ago. They are going to receive the vehicle and, oh by the way, it's way more than what was agreed upon. Come to find out, the vehicle is loaded with sat-nav, top end radio, floor mats, etc. So, they really did not order what I asked for and waisted four months of my time. I figured that I would try foreign, because of all the issues I have had with American car dealerships. For instance, signing a contract and driving off the lot with temp tags, only to have the dealership call me and state they did not charge me enough and they are not going to release the paperwork so I can get real number plates until I cough up several grand more. Another time, a different badge American dealer delivered my new vehicle with 15 miles on the odo a nice dent in the hood. Don't worry, we will have our body shop mend it they said. After being in the body shop on and off for six months, they finally offered to put a bug deflector on the hood -- free of charge -- to hide the dent and very poor quality repairs. I could go on and on, but... One would figure that spending the kind of cash a new car costs one would be able to get exactly what they want, no more or less, in new condition, at an agreed upon price without drama. Is it too much to ask? At this point, I am all for simply buying my car on an Amazon.com type website. I have yet to find where dealerships add value to the car buying process. |
I use a auto broker to buy all my cars through. I order them exactly how I want, pay alot less and don't have to deal with dealerships...

Try a dealership from a smaller town. When the salesman asks for more money hand him the keys back.Let him try and sell it to someone else.

Deal with the internet or fleet person and negociate your deal BEFORE you ever set foot in the dealership...

If they didnt give you what you ordered, walk. You are not obligated to take a different vehicle.
Good luck. :) |
I'd tell them to shove it up their....!!!.every one of them!! There is a dealership on every corner it seems, so it's not like you won't go elsewhere.
Then I'd call the local news station or newspaper and let them "deal" with it!!:willy: |
Just wanted to follow up to let folks know what happened.
I went to the dealer and asked for my deposit back. Their sales manager comes out and starts talking about how nice it is blah, blah, blah. I simply state that I want my deposit back. So, he pulls out the original paperwork, with the original agreed price and says that he will stick to that price. He was hoping that I would cover the cost to offset the additional equipment on the truck, but a deal is a deal. I'm thinking about it at this point and ask what he will give me for a trade in on my Jeep Liberty. He comes in with a trade ~$2k higher than I expected. So, we did the paperwork and I drove it off the lot. Two whole miles on the odo as I turn on the main street from the dealership. I still maintain that dealerships are a waste and we should be able to buy cars off of the Internet like books, etc. |
Nice to hear. I think you just figured out how to play the game. Personally, I love it!

I agree:thumbsup: Everyone has a right and a need to earn a living, but the markups are rediculous, and a deal is a deal, especially in writing:thumbsup: This bait and switch crap is what's given stealerships a bad name over the years. You had him by the balls and he knew it. Tried to play the sympathy card and lost:lol: You did the right thing! Congratulations on standing your ground:cheers: |
down with the stealership:lateral:
