Roll bar for Autocross, etc.
Hello All,
Does anyone have recommendations for roll bars? Specifically, I'm doing a build up on a '64 Corvette Convertible that I plan on road / autocross race. Obviously, in order to run most 1/4 mile tracks, the frame / roll bars need to meet NHRA specs. From what I'm finding, it looks like a SCCA compliant 6 point is the minimum that I would want to run. As an aside, what I would like to run is something like: http://www.cobraregistry.com/Picture..._1020_2415.JPG Only setup with 2 mounting points in the rear, 4 behind the seats, and a bolt in door bar that mounts by the door hinge. The two forming the inner part of the hoops behind the seats would form an "X". Anyone have any ideas? |
Autopower has roll bars for many cars. To do one like the picture you
will need to find a custom fab shop. |
The bars in the pic above are neither NHRA/IHRA or SCCA/NASA legal.
If you really plan to run both drag and road track you need to spend some time with a few tech inspectors. As somebody in the middle of building a rollover protection system for a convertible right this very moment (well, during normal hours :) ) I'm pretty deep in the issues and have spent hours with inspectors. Since I only plan to autox and do some of the PT type events such as RTTH, Motor State and Heidts, I chose a route which is neither NHRA/IHRA or full SCCA/NASA legal. |

To the OP, Seriously take Bills advice here. Bill and I have discussed his current project at length and I can tell you he has done his homework. From what I have gathered from conversations, it is very difficult to be "completely legal" for all sanctioning bodies. Take Bill's advice and talk with the applicable tech inspectors and then decide the route you choose to take. It also helps to keep the inspectors in the loop from design through to fabrication. Good Luck with the project. |

Pm me if you want any specifics. I'm also going to have some pics of what I did over on pt, but probably not for a week or so. |
