67CamaroKid's project...
We have made some progress on my Camaro. So, I thought I'd thought I start my project thread.
Here is a picture of my car when we brought it home. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...s/SDC10126.jpg Here we've got it torn down and ready for media blasting. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...s/DSCN0079.jpg Here it is back from media blasting. Like any 43 year old car it too has rust issues. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...s/DSCN0099.jpg This is where we are at right now. I've got a lot to learn about putting this car together. But, I've got some time because its 4 years until I get my license. :) The first thing I'm trying to learn about is what engine to get. My dad, The Patch, says I cant have anything with more than about 300 HP. He doesnt want me to build a rocket. :( Right now I'm thinking an LS327 or a basic 350. Or an LS1? :) We don't know where to get these engines, any advise would be great! But when we get one we are going to take it apart and put it back together so we can learn about engines. Thanks for checking out my build thread. |

Cool Project
Trevor
thanks for posting your build thread. Awesome to see more father son builds. You will get alot of opinions on a forum like this one. If you lived near me i would give you a used 5.3 LS MOTOR just because. It would cost more to ship than its worth. Maybe someone will chime in from your area with an offer. Just remember its not ALL about the cool car in the end, its about the friendships and experience and time with your dad you will gain in doing this build. take lots of pics and store them safely from a computer crash everytime you download. so keep posting, working hard and enjoy the journey. Great project man:thumbsup:
Is that best of show by chance?? |
Hey Trevor! I think it's great that you're into cars at such a young age, and that you get to do this with your Dad. I would've love to have shared that with my Dad when I was young!
I think a used 5.3 is a great idea. One of the mags this month did a test and made 480 hp w just heads and a cam. They're plentiful and can be picked up really cheap. And since you're planning on going through it with Patch, you can build it stock today and mod it later. Plus you'll be way ahead of us old guys with all that experience you'll gain rigging an LS motor in a first gen. Keep going buddy and remember we really like pics around here...:) |
Cool to see another project in Southern California.
Definitely keep the pictures coming. |
Trevor,Great project.Can't wait to see more. Scott

Trevor .. lucky you.. great experience to start so young,, it reminds me when i started helping with and el camino and then with my actaul camaro.. like 15 years ago.. :) just be patient, read a lot and hear the old ones.... it help me a lot to take the right choices...

I would also agree with a stock 5.3. In time, once you learn to really handle your car, you can start to bolt on goodies. With the thick walls those motors LOVE boost. I have been finding them, in Minnesota, for as cheap as $125 for the short block. I have found complete running motors for $250 with wiring harness.
Good luck on the build, it is great to see young people not going towards the import side. |
Cool project Trevor. Have fun.
