240Z fit in here?
OK guys...before you get all worked up it will have an American V8...probably an LS engine.
Picking up a 73 240Z Saturday with a very clean shell to be the basis for the project. Just bouncing ideas around now but the plan will go something like this. Strip the car and part out all the non essential Z components which will likely be everything but the shell and the windshield for the most part. Nothing fancy and pretty much all business and the plan is for scrounging used and donor components along with used race components...minimal new stuff...BUDGET. >GT1/Trans Am style square tube chassis...building myself. >Modified aftermarket fiberglass IMSA wide body kit...add some DTM influence with air management. >With the GT1 chassis it will be easy to do a flat bottom car with some sort of rear diffuser. >Engine will come back several inches so I can get optimal balance. >Might go with a dry sump if I can come across a screaming deal. >Lexan glass with exception of windshield. >I think this thing should end up weighing around 2100 lbs or so. >Bare bones but gonna have to be a panzy and have air conditioning as it gets a little warm in GA. That is kinda the big picture and a long time to get there! and a nice simple name....240RR |
Folks on here seem to like different stuff. I don't think anyone cares if you use an LS or not. Start posting up pics as soon as you tear into it!

I love those cars and with an LS and wide body kit should be killer, looking forward to seeing some pics. Welcome!

Sure does, love these cars. Especially with an LS. I'll never forget that Darius 240z guy's videos with the SC LT1, of him racing the Yamaha R1 and laying a ton of rubber. Great cars. Please post some pics

this is kinda my inspiration...I saw this car last week snooping around and proceeded to locate my donor car that same night on Craigslist...this was it!
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2978513/1971-datsun-240z I had a 240z a few years ago and have always had a soft spot for them...I think the styling lends itself nicely to the road race style of build and once I saw this one I knew that was what I wanted to build. I was not really ready to start a project yet as I am finishing up my custom sportbike build and am selling it for additional build funds...could not pass this Z up, great price and great shape for what I wanted. If anyone is interested in sportbikes check my build thread. http://www.zxforums.com/forums/zx-7r...ext-level.html Hope I am not violating any policies by posting these links!? |
