10'' wide on 68 rear?
im changing my car to go a different direction, dumping the 15'' centerlines to 17'' tire and rim combo . iam partial to the bonspeeds ,but they come in only 17x 10 . i know from the forum that 17x9 1/2 with 5.5bs is the usual but can i squeeze a 10'' back there with 5.75 bs? with a285x40x17 ? rolled lip for sure. anyone whos tried this? ...doug

I've got 17x9.5 Intro's on the rear of my 68 (drum rear) with 5.5 BS. The Intro's are actually 10 inches wide from bead to bead do to the fat lip. You shouldn't have any problems.

I have 17x10 w/ 5.75 backspace, was too close to the inner fender well so I'm using an 1/8" spacer on both sides.... 5.5" would've had me trimming/rolling the outer fender. Stock rear, Wilwood 13" disc kit, 285/40/17 Michelin Pilot Sports.

that fits with no rubbing issues, and you havent acually trimmed or rolled your fenders???
|
i have 275/40/17's on the back of mine, approx. 10" wide and they fit fairly well.
Only minor rubbing issues on the inner fender when i take hard turns or do donuts :D |
so if my fenders are trimmed and rolled then i should be able to fit a 17x10 and a 285??? i had no idea... does anybody know the proper backspacing?
|
Honestly, if you are going this route why not just add minitubs and call it done.
I know my 17x9.5 w/ 5.5 BS is very close and what is .5" anyways. I would stay safe or go the extra route and tub the car and get an even larger wheel and tire combo in the rear. |
well my fenders are already trimmed and pulled a little... and well... going the minitub route is a lot more expensive than just fitting a 17x10 with a 285 if theres a chance that it will already fit...

It fits on my 67, but I worked the innerfender some but didn't do anything to the fender lip (no rolling, no pulling).
