295 and 275 wheel question...
 

Hey guys,

I have mini tubbed my 69 camaro and am going to run 295 in the back. will a 295 work in the front? and will that look like to big of a tire?

Also, if that's the case, i was going to run a 275 in the front, but would like to have the same size wheel for all four tires, a 10x18 or a 10.5x18. Will the 275 look noticeably different on the same rim as a 295?

Biggest you can get up front is a 275. 9.5" wheel with 5.5" backspace works best.

Guess I should have specified. Yes, stock subframe.

EDIT: I should probably clarify, for a 275 up front on a stock subframe you will need to cut portions of your wheel well out. Depending on how low you go you may also have to roll fender lips. In my case I rub frame rail loc-to loc but not enough to be an issue.

Do you have any pictures or details on how the wheel wells had to be cut?

Dont have any pic's but IIRC you cut about 10" deep starting from the rear opening to about 12" from the front opening. Best way to find out what needs to be removed is to install the tire and wheel and then turn your steering wheel.

I'm thinking about going with Speedtech's subframe and they say they can have up to a 295, but I'm going to run 295 on 18s in the back. What would be a good size tire for the front that still looks big but proportionate to the back???

I'm not familiar with the diameters that 295's come in but I like to run a 26" diameter tire. 315/30's and 275/40's both come in near to that diameter in 17's and 18" wheels. 295 is a good size to shoot for up front but IMO you want to be sure the rear tire is the same or close to the same diameter.

Yes, I agree with you that the wheel diameter should be close to the same, but if I run the width of 295 in the back, in your opinion what would be the widest width I should run in the front. Is 275 in the front too close to 295 in the back? Should I go narrower than 275?

The best combination for practicality would be the same size front and rear. This way you could rotate tires front to back.

I wouldn't go narrower than a 275 up front both for looks and mostly for performance reasons.

Take a look at tire width's in 295. I would bet that a 295 is only 1/2" wider than a 275. I dont think that going with a 295 is worth it.
