Powder Coating Question
A few years ago I had a pair of high dollar fab'd valve covers powder coated. They look good and I've gotten quite a few compliments on them.
I need to weld in another bung so I'm tasked with either re-coating them. Can I remove the coating with aircraft stripper? I've never used that stuff but I have it. Is there anyway of restoring the polished look that the covers originally had before I had them coated? |
Yes, Aircraft paint stripper will work, buy aerosol can for ease of application, hose the stripper, cover up or put it in trash bag for 15-20 minutes, spray on some more, wait 5-10 minutes, rinse off. As for restoring polised finish, you may find a surprise, because most powdercoaters actuallu sandblast before powdercoating, so you may need to do some sanding with various grit sandpaper before polishing .
