70 chevelle full quarter replacement

Hello guys,

I'm in the process of doing a frame off restore on my 70 chevelle and I need some input on replacing the full quarters on it. I know I should probably take it to a bodyman but I am originally a sheetmetal man by trade but nothing on cars. I really would like to replace them myself not only to save money but to say I did if you know what I mean. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks
Howard

Sorry, I don't know anything about replacing sheet metal or welding, but since you are doing a frame off, I got a few nice parts for a Chevelle you might be interested in. And I do mean nice. I'll make you a good deal on them if interested. I'll send you a PM.

if you have the tools and patience you can do it.just dont expect a perfect fit.you WILL have to massage a few areas unless you get real lucky and i dont see that happening.like mentioned goto team chevelle.there a wealth of knowledge

One thing I always do first on qtr panel replacement is.. Rebuild door hinges & hang the doors to close to orginal opening & closing.. The doors are my set point & center line of the car... do qtr panel work & front sheetmetal.. If doors need skins.. do that last cause you have set point or gaps from front sheetmetal or qtrs..

Replacement sheetmetal is not the greatest to fit.. but in the end that is all we have available.. Lots of vendors sell it.. but in the end only about 3 sources are the ones that do it in Tiawan.. You would be surprised how these vendors work together or which US distributor pays for tooling..

Currently using Dynacorn.. In the same town.. no shipping.. I get to inspect sheetmetal .. My guys already know all the tricks to fit these panels..

Do not expect for them to fit perfect.. Lots of work & patience

Thanks for the input, ironically my quarters are dynacorn. I will be rebuilding the hinges first as you said, I know I will need at least a skin on the passenger side door. Also I'm replacing the filler panel between the rear glass and trunk lid. Would it be best to set it first at another reference point before cutting the quarters loose?

Thanks
Howard
