Eric, The glass that D&R Camaro sells seems nice I have used it a few time it goes under their brand name of Hugger Performance, but you can't beat clean OEM glass just sometimes tough to find.

I'm pretty happy with the quality of their glass.

Jeff

All I can say is that I have their glass in 3 vehicles, and know of at least 50 others that have used it without any complaints. For the record, the factory glass in my '04 Dodge truck shattered sitting in the garage last month. Rear non-sliding window. I've had problems with OEM glass, non-OEM glass, etc.

If it's a windshield, personally I find that there are more problems created by poor installation or especially when it's a reconstructed vehicle, with the vehicle itself, than with the glass. JMHO. I typically prefer OEM myself, but it's gonna be REAL hard to find OEM glass, and then your still working with bonded glass that's decades old. To my knowledge, there is really no such thing as "new OEM glass". Marketing abounds but at the end of the day it's not OEM any longer if it's a 60s car unless it's original.

Thanks for all of the replies and info guys!

a little quote from chevelles.com. id be careful with any glass from anybody. the nice thing about auto city is that that have no questions asked replacement policy. i have a feeling i'll end up using it.

I called Pilkington Glass, there Classic Glass Dept. this morning to check on a back glass for my car, to replace the brand new flawed one I have installed right now, which is from Auto City Classics. Has a bad tempering problem, shows up BAD in shade or cloudy days.
Any way, I'm talking to a friendly sales person over the phone at pilkington and I explain my situation, which he says is a common problem. I ask if he has glass availbale for my Chevelle, he says he has 2 ready to go. $175 plus tax and $100 shipping to the Left coast. Than he says they get there glass from a few different places (I thought they had there own made). The 2 he has in stock are from AUTO CITY CLASSICS, the same place my badly flawed one is from. WTF.

The 69 Z28 is a frame off, but Jack gets his glass installed by local glass installer that has been doing it for over 40 years. The 69 Z28 never had a problem with PPG glass, so perhaps you are buying the wrong brand. People have noticed that Autocity is thinner than PPG or Pilkington glass, so it is is more prone to crack. In the past there was PPG, they had warehouses around the country. We had a PPG warehouse down in Cincinnati, but it is closed. LOF (Libbey Owens Ford) is now (Pilkington). Pilkington Classics main warehouse is located in Columbus, Ohio. I visted their warehouse to buy my glass. Cost is more than Autocity though. Your choice in colors is limited to green tint or clear.

Jeff

Just for the sake of facts....

First of all, I've had cracked glass in pretty much every brand you can imagine. Dodge, Chevy, Olds, Pontiac, BMW, Mercedes, you get the picture. It's glass. It happens. The '69 Z28 "never had a problem with PPG glass? Huh? Exactly how many times has glass been replaced? Is it an annual event?

I measured the thickness of my GTO vent window glass, and then the thickness of an original piece of vent window glass that wasn't good enough to keep in the car. Surprise - it is within .002" of each other. So much for the thickness issue - at least with mine.

What people need to remember is that so many cases, places such as pilkington get the actual glass from the exact same producers as other vendors. And also to be correct, pilkington does NOT have OEM glass for classics. They have what they market as "oem quality", meaning that they claim their aftermarket glass is as good as oem. It is not oem.

Also for the record, the auto city glass I have been getting is PGW glass. So try this. Go to the PPG main site (PPG.com) and look over to the right under glass, take a guess what company name is used for their aftermarket glass? That's right - PGW. Pittsburgh Glass Works. PGW IS PPG. PPG markets their "classic" glass under the PGW brand. So to say that Auto City glass (which is PGW/PPG) is thinner than PPG is in fact an illogical statement, no? Also BTW, I'm in Pgh. Home of both PPG and their subsidiary PGW.

It's not rocket science, folks. It's glass. Buy what you want but at least look at facts. Don't make the mistake of comparing Auto City to PPG, when in fact it is PPG/PGW glass that Auto City has been delivering to me at least.

Ya know, when I asked where to get door glass I sure did not expect to start such a problem. Just looking for glass vendor info and options. That has been covered. And I do appreciate the info.
Maybe this should get locked now? It's not a productive thread at this point IMO.

I would agree and did not intend to come across as "negative". My guess is that somebody making that comment about my posts in general probably needs to do a little more reading of my posts. I was simply trying to present ACTUAL DATA AND FACTS rather than a point of view from a single (regardless of their own individual experience) body shop. People use this site to make decisions about their builds, and vendors depend on us at least being open.

Comments were made about Auto City and their glass being "inferior to PPG" when in fact, as I mentioned, the glass I received from them is PPG Glass. If that's negative, then well....

As to the not ever seing pics of my project, I probably have not posted too many on this particular site so I'll stick another thread out there

I appreciate your input here. Lots of good info ob top of where to get the glass.

And just so you and every other that posted here knows, I was not trying to single anyone out. I just thought the info had been put out and not much more positive was going on here.

By the way, nice looking goat!
