TRUNK LEAK! Thick gasket? 1st gen F body?????
Hey guys - the trunk on the 68 bird leaks pretty bad. The stock replacement gasket isn't very thick. While the body panels are new, I'm sure the fact they don't fit like a new OEM is part of the issue as well.
However, it seems if I had a thicker gasket it would seal. Any suggestions on where to get one that would fit tighter????? |
Seems we have similar issues lol, I'd like to know this as well.

I found some universal stuff on JC Whitney. The tallest I found is this:

Mine has leaked for 18 years
Even after new quarters and deck lid. Was leaking from the back glass before I glued it in like new style.
I also just have my stripping in the channel with no glue. I am sure it is getting around the seal there. Did you glue yours in? |

It seems you need to make some minor weatherstripping gutter adjustments. First off you need to see in what area the water is entering. Than take a rubber mallet and hit underneath the gutter. This will raise the metal gutter and help the trunk gasket seal against the trunk lid. I would also glue in the weatherstrip first using 3m black glue. With allot of sheet metal replacement it doesn't take much for the gutter to get bent down. I hope this helps and solves the problem.
