SoCal welders! Question!

I'm looking to buy a welder within the month, but I don't know how the gas situation works. I've been told that you don't actually buy the tank, you just rent it? Is that right? Where would I go to get a tank? I'm in San Bernardino, right around Cal State San Bernardino. Are there any places in the San Bernardino or Fontana area that I can go pick up a tank and get it filled?

And where do you guys get your metal?

Thanks guys!

I bought my tank from airgas.I'm sure it's not the cheapest way to go but you can buy them. When it's empty I just go in and purchase a fill and they give me another tank.Off the top of my head I can't remember the size(smaller tank). They told me if I want to upgrade to a larger bottle they will give me full purchase price of the bottle towards the larger one.

I am thinking of selling my welder I too bought the bottle at Airgas when I bought the welder..Pm me if you're interested

I have a Millermatic 175, 230v single phase portable wire welder, complete with bottle and 11lbs big wire spool. (can also be used with fluxcore wire).. Just plug it in and you're welding.. It was bought new by me in 2006 for garage use and has very very little use on it and works perfect

PM'd. ;)

EDIT: actually, are there any places that rent welders? I don't have too much to weld on the car, so I may not even need to buy a welder. I'm sure I can find other uses for one, but if I can save money by just renting one I'd prefer to do just that.

My local welding supply shop rents stuff too... I'd check there first.
